Tips For Renting Snorkeling Gear

Posted on

Most people don't snorkel more than a few times here and there. It's generally something you do while vacationing near the water but not at home in your ordinary life. As such, it does not make much sense to buy your own snorkeling gear. Renting makes far more sense. However, there are a few tips you'll want to follow when renting snorkeling gear.

Try it on first.

Whether it's a snorkel, flippers, a wet suit, goggles, or some other piece of gear, take the time to try it on before you rent it. Fit is really important for snorkeling gear. As with other water sports, if the item does not fit you properly, it may slide partway off. This definitely makes it hard to swim and see what lies beneath in the water, and it may even be unsafe. So, if the snorkeling rental agent does not automatically insist that you try things on before renting, ask to do so.

Check for packages.

Renting an individual snorkel, goggles, wet suit, and flippers can get expensive. You may think you'll save by going without one of these items, such as the wet suit. But actually, the best way to save is usually to rent these items as a package. Most snorkel rental companies offer this. You'll pay one price, and you'll get all of the gear needed to go out snorkeling. This is better than trying to go without something that would make your snorkeling experience safer or more enjoyable.

Rent for longer than you think you need to.

If you're having to rush to get your snorkeling gear back on time, you won't enjoy yourself nearly as much in the water. So, a smart strategy is to rent the gear for a little longer than you think you'll need it. For instance, if you're planning on going out to snorkel for two hours, rent the gear for four hours. You usually only pay a little bit more for the extra time, and you save yourself the hassle of having to rush. And if you're out there snorkeling and having a great time, you can always decide at the last minute to stay a bit longer than planned.

Renting snorkeling equipment is the way to go. Luckily, most rental companies make this pretty easy, and as long as you follow the tips above, you should have a good experience as a customer.
